8 beliefs to develop a growth mindset
Starting at the beginning of this year, many of us wrote down goals for how we desired to grow. Yet, to make sure this isn’t another year with repeat goals, we need to cultivate a growth-orientated mindset.
I’ve spent a few years now deeply working on my mindset, and here are the most valuable growth mindset tips I have for you.
(It’s a journey, meaning it takes time to deeply learn and master these beliefs. Let this be a sigh of relief from pressures of expectation & more of a guideline for growth).
The beliefs!
Take radical personal responsibility
Growth happens beyond fear
Mind your own business
All failures, mistakes, & obstacles are learning lessons
Cultivate your inner strength
Learn from experts
Everything is happening for you, not to you
Take action; messy, imperfect
Let’s break it down, shall we?
Take radical personal responsibility
This is THE most important mindset and belief to have, everything else comes second.
You have got to get out of the passengers’ seat in the car and into the driver’s seat.
Take responsibility for yourself, your emotions, your actions, your reactions. You are completely responsible for yourself. Don’t outsource your responsibility for your emotions onto others.
Stay in your power by being radically honest with yourself and seeing where you can step into your sovereignty deeper.
Only you can truly have power over your life, so take the reigns.
2. Growth happens beyond fear
Your fear is keeping you in your comfort zone. Everything within your life right now is your comfort zone.
To expand, you have to meet the edge of that comfort, and that means leaping into the unknown, the unfamiliar which is sooo foreign to our brain, which wants us to stay alive and therefore stay within the comfort zone.
To grow, you’re going to have to face that edge of comfort, look at your fears, and dance with them into the beyond; the unknown zone where all growth occurs.
P.S. I have some great podcasts episodes on “The Goddess Essence Podcast” diving deeply into this. Highly recommend you listen!
3. Mind your own business
People that are up in everybody’s bizz, on the gossip train, and into all the tabloids have waaayyy too much energy scattered around into meaningless drama and things.
Clean it up & mind yo business!!!
That means no gossiping if it can be helped. If you’re a shit talker, I encourage you to be mindful of the words you speak and see if you can begin to focus on the good things instead and speak to those qualities.
This is also how we clean up our boundaries when we stop engaging in meaningless, negative drama. It centers us to focus on what nourishes us and that also means releasing attachment to anything that doesn’t.
Focus on yourself and your growth. If you are going to be focusing on others, have it be in an uplifting, encouraging, appreciating light!
P.S. I just want to add that if someone else is acting immaturely or rudely and you’re reflecting on them and their behavior, that’s totally fine. I’m referring to the intentions and energy of the negative stories we speak of them within ourselves. You can assess behavior, and not go into unnecessarily negative narratives.
(We’re human & I understand that no one is perfect. But do your best!)
4. All failures, mistakes, obstacles are learning lessons
This is a reframing of how you view failure, mistakes, & obstacles.
Sure, they can be frustrating but don’t forget these are valuable learning lessons for us.
True growth and success cannot come without experiencing these. It’s a normal part of living. Society just glorifies the rewards of success and not so much the gritty work that it takes.
Next time you experience a failure, mistake, or obstacle, give it thanks for the gift of growth. And choose to see it as a blessing, because it is.
Self Inquiry: And to see if you’re stepping to the edge of your comfort zone & learning, when was the last time you failed? When was the last time you were a beginner? How do you react when you experience these?
5. Cultivate your inner strength
ALL of these steps are cultivation of your inner strength.
Working on personal development, confidence, and not allowing your fear to stop you are also great ways to tap into inner strength!
But the most important, from my perspective, is learning how to work with your emotions.
The darker, more painful emotions. The ones we want to run away from. In the places that we are afraid to go into because we think that we might never crawl out of that hole of despair and pain.
How you speak with yourself, how you handle yourself in those darkest moments are where your true strength will come from!
6. Learn from experts
Learning from those who have spent time in the mastery of their wisdom and skills is one of the best ways for you to learn.
A teacher who truly embodies what they teach is a gift from The Creator to guide you on your path. It fast tracks your growth and saves valuable time to work with such a person.
Not to mention, learning from others, even when you move into positions of authority or leadership, will help you stay humble and connected to the student’s mindset of always being open to learn and make mistakes.
Would you want to hire someone to build a house that doesn’t know what they’re doing? Or who has only fantasized about it but never done it?
Yeah, didn’t think so! Major yikes!!
Learn from people who know what they’re talking about, they’ll help you build a beautiful, strong, soulful foundation.
7. Everything is happening for you, not to you
In the victim mindset, everything can feel like a personal attack. But shifting out of this mindset, when you’re ready will help you begin to take what happens to you and learn deeply from it. To extract the lesson of wisdom within the situation or circumstance.
Therefore everything becomes a gift and it’s an incredibly powerful shift to have.
It doesn’t excuse someone else’s behavior, what you’ve been through, or make what happened to you okay. It simply means you’re ready to see the lessons once you’ve processed through your emotions!
Imagine your mindset being focused on what you learn and the blessing of the gift within the pain you experience.
It’s the Midas touch, ba-by!
I remember using this lesson very deeply as I worked through my childhood trauma and neglect.
It works!
8. Take action; messy, imperfect
This one specific lesson has been SO difficult for me.
Taking action was the scariest fucking thing. I was stuck in a paralysis of fear of making the wrong decisions and being damned into hell. If you’re a “do first, think later” person, then perhaps this won’t be as difficult for you as it was for me lol!
People that tend to contemplate before taking action are prone to overthinking (raises hand).
You will learn more by being in the game and playing and making those mistakes & failures. A lot of the time, we don’t take action because that’s exactly what we’re afraid of; making mistakes and failure. Embrace that those learning lessons are a part of life and get your hands dirty!
So, do yourself a favor and take uncomfortable, messy action first. The more you practice, the *slightly* easier it gets!
That’s a wrap!
