Healing the inner child

                  Mother with a Child (1940)  |  Arnold Peter Weisz-Kubínčan (Slovak, 1898 - 1944)

Considering I am the bee’s knees at inner child healing, it’s one of my specialties, I am oh so shocked I haven’t written to you about this sooner.

But in the name of never being late and always cosmically on time, I am going to give you a very thorough rundown of the inner child and what inner child healing truly looks like.

Here’s what I’ll be talking about in this article:

  • What the inner child is

  • The wounded inner child

  • The joyful inner child

  • The spiritual wisdom of the inner child

  • What it reveals to you

  • How to heal the wounded inner child

What the inner child is

You may have heard about “inner child healing”, but what is it exactly?

The inner child is the energy within you that is connected to the most childlike self. It is the aspect of us that never quite “grows up”.

This aspect of the self is seen through two lenses; the wounded inner child and the joyful inner child.

The wounded inner child is the aspect of us that is talked about in reference to healing. It gets the most talk because at the beginning of the “healing journey,” it may seem like it needs the most attention, but connecting to the joyful inner child is just as necessary and no less important.

If your life is lacking joy, love, happiness, spontaneity, creativity, laughter, openness, and movement then your inner child needs your attention immediately!

The Wounded Inner Child

The wounded inner child is the part of us that became wounded as a child, and consequently, the part of us that becomes energetically stunted and holds our emotional pain in tight, painful knots causing blockages in life.

It is where the light of consciousness has not penetrated and illuminated, unfurling the dark wounding into love. This is where our dense karma is centered in us, as deep pain and suffering & holds the most ego conditioning.

I say karma as in “that which separates us from The Creator.”

Essentially all separateness must come back into love and union with The Beloved. Spiritually, this “phase” takes the most energy, dedication, and willingness to hold yourself to love and truth and open up your psyche and your inner universe to its true nature.

It is a painful process in all honesty. Touching the most sensitive, hurt, and vulnerable part of our inner child psyche, and holding all of us as we feel it all takes a deep strength.

But don’t worry, you are in good hands as I am quite intimate with both aspects of the inner child. And you are more capable than you know in giving to yourself the love that you needed.

The end result of walking the path is true liberation, the deepest love, and home within yourself. The gaping void within becomes filled with presence, loving energy, and your shakti. You are reborn anew, awakened and sovereign after reparenting yourself.

The human self is given it due attention; the nervous system, attachment styles, love languages, stress management, sleep hygiene, breathwork, exercise, etc. are all also learned in the process of connecting to your inner child, whether intuitively or intentionally.

The Joyful Inner Child

The joyful inner child is the most innocent, most free, and most joyful aspect of us.

Think of a cheerful child with no worries or stresses. Just childlike fun, exploration, play, curiosity, and joy for life.

Before life shows you pain and trauma before you are exposed to limitations, before you begin experiencing emotional wounding and the dysfunctional ways we all start learning how to cope with life’s hurdles and painful lows.

The joyful child has the most clean, most pure and divine heart.

There is no malice, no hatred, no jealousy or darkness. The heart is full of illuminated light and love, it radiates energy outwards in positive and uplifting waves of pure source energy.

This joyful inner child is also attuned to your true essence. It lives in its true nature and holds valuable information to what your soul actually came here to do and experience.

The Spiritual Wisdom of the Inner Child

Children don’t pretend at all.

Even if they are playing make-belief, they truly believe they are a princess fighting off an angry dragon! They embody it and become it as the inner self is allowed complete expression, unfiltered in playing out it’s true desires and curiosities.

Whereas, the longer one spends time on Earth, before awakening, the more they become layered with “shoulds, can’ts, not for me, not possible, not enough”, and limitations in all forms.

Which is why if you are intentionally navigating both the wounded and joyful inner child, or working with someone who is knowledgeable in guiding you through this, it’s very important to understand the spiritual gems that this journey uncovers.

Usually, children haven’t heavily absorbed messages of limitation such as:

  • X is more important than Y.

  • You need to chase money, not dreams

  • XYZ is unacceptable, inappropriate, unrealistic

Why it’s important to know your limitations

These limitations derail us from our true expression, our true desires, and taking the path of fulfilling our heart’s dreams while understanding the deeply transformative, fruitful journey of the spiritual evolution it will take us through.

Rather than wasting time on material pursuits that hold no resonance with our soul, we use our time and energy wisely. We devote ourselves to what lights our spirit up from within by sharing the gifts that we have culminated and desire to keep cultivating, with others.

This true connection to our spiritual essence, the unique cosmic path of our soul, fuels us and becomes a self-contained garden of abundance, replenishing us simply from the connection to Source that we maintain.

When we aren’t connected to our spiritual calling from within, we have misaligned actions and energy toward other pursuits that leave us burnt out and completely depleted.

This depletion is a literal emptying of life force energy.

When we are lit up we are aroused and excited. Our shakti is vibrating and pulsing with life, tapped into a flow of energy that never diminishes. We are refueled simply by being in service, by putting our energy, time, and focus into spiritually fruitful endeavors, that are then also fruitful for us materially.

The inner child, both joyful and wounded, holds all the keys to unlocking this path for you.

What it shows you

The joyful inner child shows you what your spirit is most in love with.

Where it is naturally drawn towards. That which truly lights you up. Your heart & soul’s deepest longing for expression. What your soul wants you to engage with, to learn, and to put time into because you were literally created to shepherd it into life.

The wounded inner child shows you all the blockages you must overcome & rewrite into love.

If your soul’s calling was a path, the wounded childs energy is all that obscures, delays, and stops you from walking down it.

From this perspective, we can then integrate both aspects into our consciousness and utilize this knowledge to redirect ourselves.

Inevitably, when you are healing the inner child, you will have to plug up all of your energy leaks and cut away all the weeds and leeches that drain your energy. This spiritual hygiene and protection becomes a necessity and a requirement to progress forward.

How to heal the wounded inner child

Okay, so the practical stuff!

The key activity is : TO GIVE YOURSELF ALL THE LOVE YOU NEVER RECEIVED.

There are more specifics, but at the core, it is always about you giving yourself love.

The core requirements are :

  • to get curious,

  • to feel all of your feelings,

  • to observe yourself

  • to see where you are not meeting yourself with truth, courage, strength, and utter belief in yourself

  • to experiment with what gives you deep nourishment & mutual growth (with others)

  • to be devoted to expanding, loving yourself, & the beloved.

Some activities look like exploring:

  • childhood trauma

    • family dynamics, conditioning

  • love languages

  • attachment style

  • coping mechanisms

    • stress relievers

    • addictions, distractions

  • passions, dreams

  • core values

  • limitations

Powerful questions to ask yourself:

  • What gives me joy and utmost happiness?

  • What can I do to connect to my creativity more?

  • How & where can I express myself more fully, unapologetically, & boldly?

  • What are MY desires?

  • What makes me feel loved and unloved?

  • What do I tolerate in my life that I don’t want to? (From self or others)

Thats all :)

I wanted to give you more of a deeper perspective than you might typically find on the inner child in this article. If they are on the same journey, share it with your friends.
